The only recording by Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers for the Impulse! Records label was made in the summer of 1961 and marked a turning point for the popular hard bop formation. On the one hand, this was their first appearance as a sextet with trombonist Curtis Fuller, and on the other, it was their last recording with pianist Bobby Timmons.
