According to Jurgen Kesting, Victoria de los Angeles (1923 - 2005) was able to make "the lyric soul resound" while Maria Callas was making headlines as a "tigress"; de los Angeles' singing helped her enjoy triumphant successes from Barcelona to New York, from Bayreuth to London and Paris with a simplicity that touched people's hearts. Her Mimi (La Boheme), Margarethe (Faust), Desdemona (Otello) and Melisande (Pelleas et Melisande) are peerless examples of her art - to be enjoyed on this 10CD compilation, which also includes important live recordings of performances in New York (Figaro, Mastersingers, Otello) and Spanish songs written by de Falla, Turina and Granados, among other composers.
