Helmut Walcha (1907-1991) was undoubtedly one of the most profound Bach interpreters of the 20th century. This recording was made in September 1956 in the St. Laurenskerk, Alkmar, and is also remarkable from a technical point of view: it was the first stereo recording of the archive production. In addition to the "Art of Fugue", the Toccata and Fugue in D minor and the Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor can also be heard.
