The early 17th century saw the emergence of a large number of new tunings for the lute, the most popular of which can be found in Pierre Ballard's publication "Tablatures de Luth de Differents Autheurs sur les Accords Nouveaux" (1631 / 1638). The accords nouveaux inspired the lutenists of the 17th century to write some of the greatest pieces ever created for the instrument - some of which can be heard on this CD.
