Take FREDDIE HUBBARD, for example: For "The Artist Selects", the trumpeter, who was born in Indianapolis on April 7, 1937, has compiled what he considers to be the best HUBBARD tracks from his Blue Note phase. HUBBARD's time at Blue Note lasted from 1960 to 1967, and during this time he created a stylistically extraordinarily varied palette of titles, ranging from energetic hard bop to exciting, experimental forms. HUBBARD was accompanied by the greatest musicians of the era, including Art Blakey, Wayne Shorter, Philly Joe Jones, Hank Mobley, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones, Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson and others.
