On the occasion of Frédéric Chopin's 200th birthday in 2010, the works of the Polish composer were the focus of numerous concerts. At the Ruhr Piano Festival in Essen the Piano Concertos No. 1 in E minor and No. 2 in F minor were performed under the direction of Andris Nelsons. Besides the Staatskapelle Berlin, Daniel Barenboim is the star at the piano. With his expressive interpretation of lyrical themes, he convinced the audience, who rewarded him with thunderous applauseFrédéric Chopin composed the two piano concertos at the age of 19 and 20 respectively. They are among the last works he composed in Poland before he went to France. Masterly pieces full of feeling and poetry were created, for which a high degree of talent and virtuosity of the pianist is required.
