With his "Messe a quatre choeurs", Marc-Antoine Charpentier delivers a unique work in which the rare encounter between French tradition and the splendor of the Roman Baroque is revealed. Inspired by the great polychoral works of Gabrieli and Benevoli, which he listened to attentively during his stay in Italy, Charpentier unfolds a choral dialog of extraordinary proportions. Four vocal and instrumental ensembles face each other, respond and intertwine in a play of echoes and timbres that transcends the liturgical space. The conductor Jean-Baptiste Nicolas and all the musicians involved lend this masterpiece of sacred music a unique character through the combination of stylistic precision and interpretative finesse.
