What happens when three musicians take on Johann Sebastian Bach and develop it further with equal courage and skill? Then Constellations can be created from them. Vintage Moon, Electric Rain, Hiraeth and 999 are the names of the four hybrid pieces on the debut CD of the BachSpace ensemble at the interface of baroque music and electronica. With their cross-border music they have played at various Bach festivals and at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2017, among othersThe pianist Tamar Halperin, winner of the Hessian Culture Prize 2016 and musical partner of Michael Wollny and Andreas Scholl, who made her debut with Neue Meister in 2016 with her successful SATIE album, and the violinist Etienne Abelin, a long-standing member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, have recorded various works by Bach in the studio for this CD. Audio designer Tomek Kolczynski, who has made a name for himself with soundtracks for theatre and film, extracts characteristic fragments from the piano and violin tracks and transforms them digitally. He forms his own pieces with long arcs of tension from multi-layered sound chains, loops and ostinatiTogether, the three musicians weave the Bach originals with these electronic compositions into new sensory units - a technique called "pasticcio" in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. These meshes, Constellations, give new space to the density and emotionality in Bach's music. Johann Sebastian Bach, mutated through skilful dramaturgy and recomposition to create his own contemporary sound world: BachSpace.
