Love, Intrigue and Poison - OLESYA GOLOVNEVA'S ROLLING DEBUTT AS LUISA MILLERTo be seen and heard is the young Russian soprano Olesya Golovneva in her phenomenal role debut of the title role of Verdi's Luisa Miller at the Malmö Opera. The great Italian composer's unfortunately still underrated stage work can be seen here in a production by Stefano Vizioli, conducted by Michael Güttler."It is a magnificent drama, full of passion and theatrically very effective," the composer writes to librettist Salvatore Cammarano about Schiller's bourgeois tragedy Kabale und Liebe. Luisa Miller, however, is not a setting of this play - it is an Italian opera of its own design and tells the basic conflicts of Schiller's drama in a new way with its own means. The bourgeois milieu of the material inspired Verdi to turn to the private world, thus making the musical characterization of the characters emotionally moving and intimate. The political explosiveness of the drama appears in the opera as a thematization of fundamental ethical-moral values, which ultimately leads to disaster in the conflict-laden dependence of two fathers and in their respective relationships with their children.
