Engelbert Humperdinck's music to the pantomime of Karl Gustav Vollmoeller's probably most important stage work "Das Mirakel" impresses with its deeply romantic tonal language, the large-scale choral scenes and has so far led an unforgivable shadowy existence in the composer's creative catalog. Premiered in London in 1911, the work was adapted for film (1912) by none other than Max Reinhardt and staged numerous performances with hundreds of actors, extras and dancers - ultimately also at the Salzburg Festival in 1925.
This recording is the first complete recording of this deeply romantic masterpiece. Steffen Tast conducts the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin and two choirs sing in the interlude, namely the Rundfunkchor Berlin and the children's choir of the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium in Berlin as well as the internationally renowned soprano Sophie Klussmann and the mezzo-soprano Josette Micheler.
