The Estonian composer has been part of Paavo Järvi's life since his childhood: "Arvo was my sister's and father's super cool friend. He wore a baseball cap, jeans and a denim jacket."
The history of the Järvi family is closely linked to Pärt's work, as it was the now legendary concert at which Neeme Järvi - Paavo's father - conducted Pärt's Credo in 1968 that led to the Soviet regime blacklisting the Järvi family and expediting their departure from Estonia. Credo is also part of this extensive program spanning 45 years of composing.
An album for Arvo Pärt's 90th birthday that reflects the breadth of his creative output. The title "Credo" refers to a composition from 1968, but also to the entire oeuvre: "I believe" is to be placed alongside the credibility of the music - from the early avant-garde period to a phase of neoclassical experimentation to all the works with which Pärt has been touching very different people in equal measure for half a century. The choice of works is as personal as the friendship with the Järvi family of conductors, and the recording is simply outstanding in every respect.
