Dvořák's String Quartet op. 106 and Coleridge-Taylor's Fantasy Pieces form a particularly successful combination and also the CD of the month in July: two works that complement each other and were composed at the same time, albeit in very different creative periods of their creators.Dvořák's quartet is one of the first major works written back in Prague in 1895 after a long stay in the United States, while Coleridge-Taylor's pieces are the work of a precocious student at London's Royal College of Music. The Takács Quartet's commitment to this music makes for exciting results in both cases.
