Alan Lomax documented the emergence of music in the southern states of the USA from 1940-1960. The "Southern Journey" series eventually comprised 13 albums. Scott Billington and Steve Reynolds - together the core of Tangle Eye - have now revisited twelve songs from the series
, taking the original vocal parts from the songs, which range between blues, country and rocksteady, and arranging them in a contemporary style. Supported by Henry Butler, Jeff Raines, Dirk Powell, Delfeayo Marsalis, Rob Ickes and George Porter (The Meters), they succeeded in creating a wonderful song series. The basic historical character is retained in every piece, but the original raw musical nuggets have been transformed into sparkling gems.
