With Liszt's "Dance of Death", with which he triumphed at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, and the "Spanish Rhapsody" (arranged for piano and string orchestra by his mentor Petukhov) on the one hand and Rachmaninov's "Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini" - his favorite composer - on the other, Dmitry Masleev offers a very personal diptych that is permeated by the Dies irae theme. The album closes with the Adagio from Marcello's oboe concerto, which Bach arranged for keyboard instruments, a kind of vision of heaven after hell.
