"Ifigenia in Tauride" is about the tragic fate of the siblings Iphigenia and Orest. The two tormented and deeply lonely souls find themselves in a moment of overwhelming realization. Tommaso Traetta's music, a mixture of Neapolitan bel canto and Gluckian drama, perfectly matches the exciting plot. He never uses vocal virtuosity for its own sake: It serves the powerful expression, in which every vocalise, every musical line conveys a sincere emotion. Recording of Christophe Rousset's great success at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music 2025 with the outstanding Rocio Pérez in the title role.
