Don Denis Silano, Stefano Guadagnini, Anna Piroli, Gianluigi Ghiringhelli, Massimo Lombardi, Giovanni Cantarini, Davide Benetti, Gianluca Pisa, Enrico Torre, Jônatas Luís Monteiro, Alessandro Papini, Andrea Bestazzi, Carlo Montalenti
Held in high esteem by his contemporaries, Orfeo Vecchi stands out as a
remarkable figure with regard to the sacred repertoire he produced from the
late 1500s. Respectful of the written texts while elegantly expressing pictorial
content through subtle dialogue, antiphony and counterpoint, the 20 pieces of the
Motectorum sex vocibus liber tertius form a rich and eclectic collection that fully
reveals Vecchi’s mastery and religious inspiration. This world premiere recording
has been made by musicians involved in recovering the wealth of unpublished
materials held in Vercelli Cathedral, where Vecchi studied and worked for much
of his career.
The Cappella Musicale Eusebiana, led by soloists Anna Piroli, Gianluca Pisa,
Stefano Guadagnini, Enrico Torre, Gianluigi Ghiringhelli, Giovanni Cantarini,
Massimo Lombardi, and Davide Benetti, is dedicated to the recovery of 16th- and
17th-century musical heritage. Specializing in vocal and instrumental performance
of early music, their focus is on the unpublished musical treasures of the Vercelli
cathedral. Carlo Montalenti accompanies at the organ.
Don Denis Silano, a native of Vercelli, is a highly accomplished musician with
qualifications in choral composition, Gregorian chant, choral conducting, and
musicology. He has studied organ and composition as well. Silano has made
significant contributions to the field, including critical editions of works by Orazio
Colombano and Valerio Bona. As a conductor, he has recorded for notable labels
such as Brilliant Classics, Elegia, and Dynamic, presenting unpublished musical
works that he has also critically edited. The world première recording of Luca
Marenzio’s Missa Iubilate and Magnificat sexti toni on Dynamic was nominated for
the ICMA 2023 award in the Early Music category. Don Silano is the chapel master
and parish priest of the Vercelli cathedral.
