All facets of a great singing career: On the eightieth birthday of Brigitte Fassbaender

When a great singer turns eighty, one usually looks far back into the past: to great roles, to special concerts, to the farewell from the stage - mostly decades ago. With Brigitte Fassbaender, who reaches the age of eighty on 3 July, things are different: although she sang on stage for the last time in 1994, a career followed that filled a whole life for others: as a voice teacher, as a director, as a libretto translator and author and even as a painter

A special treasure of her first career are the recordings from the EMI archive, which are now experiencing their re-release. This icon box is considered one of the most comprehensive documentaries of Brigitte Fassbaender's artistic work, which brought the artist the ECHO KLASSIK for her life's work in 2017. She shows the whole spectrum of the artist. She reaped her first discographic successes with songs by Brahms, Liszt, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Schubert and - at that time still real discoveries - Gustav Mahler and Hugo Wolf

Legendary: her winter journey from 1988, which concludes the song part in the ICON box before great opera and oratorio moments follow. Bach's Mass in B minor, Handel's Messiah, opera highlights by Rossini, Verdi or Alban Berg, operettas by Jacques Offenbach and Johann Strauss, among others.
