Bychkov's recordings of all Mahler symphonies are considered by many critics to be the Mahler cycle of the 21st century.
The Czech Philharmonic is one of the most historically significant orchestras in Europe with a chief conductor who is internationally recognized for his structural ability and interpretative integrity. Mahler symphonies have been at the heart of his program with the Prague orchestra since 2018, when Bychkov began his tenure as Chief Conductor and Music Director with performances of Mahler's Symphony No. 2. The orchestra occupies a special place in Mahler's geographical and cultural identity: Mahler was born and grew up in Bohemia; he completed his first symphony shortly after a one-year stay in Prague. The unmistakable voices of Christiane Karg, Elisabeth Kulman, David Butt Philip, Adam Plachetka, the Prague Philharmonic Choir and other first-class singers complete an ideal cast for this uncompromisingly high-class complete recording.
