Since the 1940s, New York City has been the center and mecca has been the center and mecca of modern urban jazz, and never before have so many giants of this music were at work at the same time in their creative Creative peak as there were at the end of the 50s. We kick things off with some of the finest swing musicians from the Ellington environment, first and foremost trumpeter Roy Eldridge and the saxophonists ...and saxophonists Ben Webster and Johnny Hodges.. for the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Golson, Sonny Rollins and all the other all the other bebop and hardbop musicians. Among the musicians who consciously embraced the roots of jazz.., ...was tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, who had studied with Ray Charles.. ...who had gone through the school of rhythm and blues with Ray Charles.. ...in the modern setting of drumming legend Max Roach.. Max Roach as in the funky groove sound together with organist star with the organist star Jimmy Smith. This field of tension most of the masterpieces collected here:

The saxophone duels of Sonny Rollins and Sonny Stitt.. johnny Griffin and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. More experimental rollins then acts with his trio and orchestra, as does the great baritone saxophonist the great baritone saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, who with his Concert Jazz Concert Jazz Band, who has given us unrivalled moments of glory to this day. But also rare treasures are included: the trio of the pianist Eddie Costa too young, the chamber music projects of Hal McKusick and the Projects of Hal McKusick and the Jazz Modes around the later Monk saxophonist Charlie Rouse.
