Bassist Stefano Sciascia gives us a rare glimpse of the double bass as an expressive soloistic instrument in a recital of music from countries around the world. The scope of time and space are both explored here, ranging from Max Bruch’s 1881 composition Kol Nidrei to works newly composed for Sciascia and ports of call from Spain to Japan. Sciascia’s expert and sensitive choice of repertoire reflects his long-standing wish to render the bass as expressive as a human voice.
