This recording presents the first complete recording of the surviving piano music of Marianna Martines, a composer and piano virtuoso in 18th century Viennese musical life. Martines, who was admired during her lifetime for her brilliance as a performer and composer, occupied a central position in the elite musical circles of Vienna. Under the direction of conductor Cayenna Ponchione-Bailey, with pianist Idith Meshulam Korman and the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, this release brings together Martines' four surviving piano concertos, three sonatas and her Sinfonia in C major, recorded from newly prepared critical editions. The works reveal a composer who wrote ambitiously for public performance, combining lyrical vocal parts with high technical demands, orchestral imagination and playful formal subversion.
