Iain Quinn (organ)
This album combines the complete organ music of Kodály with the world premiere recording of Ernő Dohnányi's only organ work, the eloquent Fantasie. Sokola's intense and captivating Passacaglia occupies a special place in the organ repertoire, Wiedermann's Pastorale dorico was composed in the dark days of the Second World War, and Novák's Prelude is a study in muted tonal contrasts. Zoltán Kodály's organ works have a musical language of their own like no other composer. The imposing Organoedia ad missam lectam is one of his most important non-choral works of the post-war period, and the Epigrams, originally for voice and piano, can be heard here in a transcription by Gábor Trajtler.
