Art-Oliver Simon from Hamburg studied musicology at the Free University of Berlin and from 1987 to 1993 composition with Frank Michael Beyer at the Berlin University of the Arts. in 1993 he received the Composition Prize of the Berlin Senate and in 1994 the Boris Blacher Prize of his alma mater. From 1993 to 1995 he worked at the Ircam in Paris on questions of formalized computer-aided composition processes. He has lived in Berlin since 1995. Art-Oliver Simon is a composer of high aesthetic integrity and straightforwardness. As a musician, he is someone who consistently and uncomfortably fights against the zeitgeist. His compositions cannot really be assigned to any stylistic direction
