Gile Bae, Archi di Santa Cecilia, Luigi Piovano
As Peter Wollny reminds us in the liner notes, Bach's piano concertos represent a group of innovative works of historical importance that mark the very beginning of the piano concerto genre. It is therefore only natural that they have been included in the standard repertoire by pianists, some of whom have left us landmark recordings, even if the more recent discography as a whole is somewhat limited. The young and talented pianist Gile Bae (who was born in the Netherlands, is of Korean origin and has close ties to Italy) presents us with a new recording of the first five concertos in a project that is also a 'journey to Italy' unique in its kind, as each concerto was recorded in a different place in the Bel Paese, which Bach loved without ever having visited. Bae's fellow travelers on this project are the Archi di Santa Cecilia and their director Luigi Piovano, who continue to build on their successful collaboration with Arcana with this album. The project is enriched by a bonus DVD containing the footage of the recording of each piece.
