Cassandra Wilson and T-Bone Burnett have succeeded in creating a thoroughly surprising album that reinterprets the Mississippi Delta blues in a way that is as magical as it is postmodern, including "Easy Rider" by Blind Lemon Jefferson, "I Want To Be Loved" by Willie Dixon and the traditional "Red River Valley". Wilson has also interpreted "Closer To You", a Jakob Dylan composition, and "Lost" and "Strike A Match", two T-Bone Burnett numbers written especially for this album.
As always, "Thunderbird" is rounded off with some of the musician's own fascinating compositions.
