it really is a crack orchestra, and certainly the skill and alertness of its players are strikingly in evidence here...[Hilde Güden's Sophie] lands the high notes with consummate ease and sounds genuinely delighted with the presentation of the rose...[Risë Stevens's] characterisation is vivid and generous, especially in Act 2.
