Christina of Sweden, who lived in Rome after her abdication as queen in 1654, loved her independence and pursued a clear artistic vision as an intrepid patron of the arts. Her palace became a laboratory for musical experimentation, where composers and singers developed new forms and organized sumptuous festivals. The album "Liberata" by the ensemble L'Escadron Volant de la Reine is structured like an imaginary mourning ceremony for the great patroness. It features exclusively composers who were supported by the former monarch: Corelli, Scarlatti, Kerll, Stradella, Carissimi and others.
