What will become of Porgy after Bess' departure? The pianist and arranger Vyacheslav Gryaznov, who fell in love with Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, decided to answer this question. With Rhapsody in Black, a concerto for piano and orchestra, he takes up the story of the opera: Bess in New York, Porgy in its footsteps. Neither pastiche nor simple arrangement, Rhapsody in Black builds on Gershwin's legacy by combining rousing improvisations, big band sounds and poetic ballads. Together with Rhapsody in Blue, Gryaznov, the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Wayne Marshall create a lively diptych.
