Over the past five years, Brilliant Classics has compiled an extensive catalog of recordings of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's instrumental music.

The Venetian composer is best known for his comic operas, but his neglected instrumental output is honored on the Brilliant label by Italian pianist Costantino Catena, who will be featured in this eclectic 8-CD set with solo pieces as well as violin sonatas, the cello sonata and the piano quintet.

The chamber music is rounded off by recent recordings of the string trios and quartets, the piano trios and the violin-cello duo.

Larger, concertante instrumentations are represented here with the Idillio and the Suite (concertinos for oboe and bassoon respectively) as well as the Serenade for strings, which were recorded by Wolf-Ferrari's north-east Italian compatriots of the New "Busoni" Orchestra (Trieste). To complete this section, Brilliant has licensed a third Concertino (for cor anglais) and the Violin Concerto from the Italian label Tactus.

Further information:
- Recordings from the years 2006-2023
- The English-language booklet contains all liner notes from the original releases
- The new edition of the Brilliant Classics series "The Italian Romantics" pays tribute to the rich heritage of instrumental music (as opposed to vocal and operatic music) by Italian composers of the Romantic/Late Romantic period.
- Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari (1876-1948) is a difficult composer to categorize. As a child of his time, he kept his distance from the innovations of modernism and dodecaphony. The son of a German father and a Venetian noblewoman, he was born in Venice and studied in Munich. He became famous as an opera composer. His style is romantic, with impressionistic touches and occasional neoclassical influences. His aim was to create a "universal beauty" in his works, to which no rules apply, only a feeling of well-being and sensuality.
- Outstanding performances by Italian musicians who express their deep love for the music of their compatriot.
