This 10-CD collection of music in veneration of the Virgin Mary contains over 100 works written over a period of several centuries. The programme covers solo canticles with orchestral accompaniment, Marian Vespers, simple unaccompanied choral pieces, concertante works with larger forces, and organ works. Gregorian chant, Marian songs, motets and masses, Magni?cat settings, Offertorium, and "Sacred Concerto" alternate to offer a collection rich in its diversity of musical styles.
Amongst the performers featured in this set are the Dufay Ensemble, the Early Music Group of Munich, Hannover Boys Choir, Camerata Vocale Freiburg, Frankfurt Kantorei, Saltzburg Baroque Ensemble, and Ensemble Cantissimo.
