Ginette Neveu was a great musician who continues to fascinate us today. The present collection, representing the complete corpus of her studio recordings, follows the exceptional career of an artist whose playing commanded respect from teachers, critics and fellow-musicians alike. The recordings were made between 1938 and 1948 in Berlin and in London. For those who seek to solve the puzzle of how her playing could attain such absolute perfection, the answer must lie in celestial regions: “My child,Heaven has bestowed a gift upon you, and I have nointention of interfering with it” – to quote the words of the famous violin virtuoso and teacher Carl Flesch to the young girl he had heard play in a Vienna competition of 1931 at which he was one of the judges. The preceding year, she had won the coveted Premier Prix of the venerable Conservatoire de Paris, attracting worldwide attention. Four years later she won first prize at the newly established Wieniawski Competition in Warsaw. Only two months after her thirtieth birthday, Ginette Neveu tragically lost her life in a plane crash when she was at the height of her career.
