"To be only a medium, only a mediator between the divine, the eternal and mankind" was the credo of the Swiss pianist Edwin Fischer, whose high artistic standards are reflected in these recordings from 1933 to 1954. This compilation includes piano concertos by Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. In addition to the "musts" of the literature for solo piano - including the Preludes and Fugues from the "Well-Tempered Clavier" by Johann Sebastian Bach or Beethoven's "Appassionata" and "Pathétique" or Schubert's Impromptus - the receptive Fischer can be experienced alongside violinist Gioconda de Vito and soprano Elisabeth Schwarzkopf as a chamber musician and song accompanist as sensitive as he is excellent. Finally, with his own chamber orchestra, he also stands as conductor alongside his famous colleagues Wilhelm Furtwängler, Eugen Jochum and Josef Krips.
