Comprehensive, exemplary overview of Handel's oeuvre on 65 CDs
Along with Johann Sebastian Bach and Antonio Vivaldi, George Frideric Handel (1685-1759, later anglicized to George Frideric Handel) belongs to a generation of extremely productive Baroque masters whose music spread far beyond the borders of their homeland during their lifetimes and whose compositions and innovations continue to have an impact to this day. However, while Bach and Vivaldi are rightly regarded as outstanding representatives of the German and Italian styles respectively, Handel's oeuvre combines compositions in both the German and Italian styles. He is also regarded as the inventor of the English oratorio.
