After the first recording of Saint-Saëns' opera Ascanio, Guillaume Tourniaire returns to the Geneva collection of b-records to revive a new score... and a wonderful composer: La Sorcière by Camille Erlanger! La Sorcière was written to a libretto by André Sardou based on the play of the same name by Victorien Sardou and performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1912. The play impresses with its theatricality and musical richness, combining in an original way the lyricism of the French post-romantic school, impressionist transparencies and the aesthetic influences of naturalism. This terrifying portrait of religious and xenophobic intolerance and the fate of women under the yoke of the Spanish Inquisition in the 16th century is still highly relevant today, more than a hundred years after it was written. An unforgettable live performance under the direction of Guillaume Tourniaire in the Victoria Hall in Geneva with the choir and orchestra of the Haute École de Musique de Genève and an exceptional cast.
