Céline Frisch (harpsichord/piano), Alexander Melnikov (piano)
Café Zimmermann, Pablo Valetti
Café Zimmermann has selected music by Mozart and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach from the 1770s and 1780s for his new album entitled "Young and Foolish". The program begins with Mozart's famous and sparkling Divertimento K. 138. For this fascinating juxtaposition of W. A. and C. P. E., Ensemble Café Zimmermann has invited an exceptional musician: fortepiano virtuoso Alexander Melnikov. They will play the Concerto No. 17 in G major K. 453, which Mozart said in a letter to his father that it (like his concertos K. 450 and K. 451) "makes you sweat"! Together with harpsichordist Céline Frisch, co-founder of the ensemble, Melnikov will play Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Concerto for Hammerklavier, Harpsichord and Orchestra, the only one of its kind ever composed, a work full of energy and mischievousness.
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)
[CPE Bach's double concerto is] formally taut but effortlessly witty, and Alexander Melnikov and Céline Frisch delight in its fantasy, responding to its playfulness without ever forcing the humour.
