SWRmusic is the label of Südwestrundfunk (SWR). Its purpose is to document the artistic work of the internationally renowned SWR orchestras, including outstanding archive recordings by famous musicians. To mark the label's 25th anniversary, this box set is being released with six albums representing the work of the broadcaster's orchestras in collaboration with major artists.

It begins with Roger Norrington conducting three symphonies by Joseph Haydn, followed by pianist Clara Haskil playing two piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Michael Gielen conducts Gustav Mahler's 5th Symphony and Hans Rosbaud leads the orchestra in various orchestral sequences from operas by Richard Wagner. This is followed by the SWR Vokalensemble singing works by Anton Bruckner and Eliahu Inbal concludes with the 5th Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich.

The SWR Symphony Orchestra has its artistic home in the Liederhalle Stuttgart and the Konzerthaus Freiburg. Formed in September 2016 from the merger of the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart and the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, its artistic profile includes interpretations of historically informed performance practice, the core classical-romantic repertoire and contemporary music in equal measure. The orchestra's profile is rounded off by its own concert series, appearances at festivals and collaborations with international conductors and top-class soloists.
