159 years after its premiere at La Scala in Milan, the opera "Nabucco" was performed for the first time at the Vienna State Opera. With this production, Arthaus Musik presents the first successful opera by the then desperate composer Giuseppe Verdi. After two failed operas and the tragic death of his wife and two children, Verdi fell into a creative crisis and even considered giving up composing.
He held on to the idea until the libretto of Nabucco fell into his hands and he immediately began composing the work. In the end, the premiere in 1842 was a great success and Verdi was filled with new hope. Günter Krämer was responsible for staging the premiere in Vienna in 2001. In his interpretation, the director focuses on subtle symbolism and depth of expression.
The musical director was Fabio Luisi, who engaged great singers such as Leo Nucci in the role of Nabucco, Maria Guleghina as Abigaille and Marina Domashenko as Fenena for the successful performance.
