Les Cris de Paris
Choeur et Orchestre
Marianne Crebassa, mezzo-soprano
Baptiste Lopez, violon
Geoffroy Jourdain, direction
From the last creative period of Schumann, Missa Sacra is a wonderful piece, but almost unknown, probably because of the circumstances of its composition. First written for choir and orchestra, Schumann wrote a version for choir and organ, that he sent, under a pseudonym, to an English society that was organizing a composing competition. The piece was revealed only after his death on the insistence of Clara Schumann and was only rarely programmed in concert, or in the choir and organ version. So that is a real rediscovering made by Geoffroy Jourdain and Les Cris de Paris, they are about to reveal, for the first time on period instrument, this wonderful Missa Sacra with, as a soloist, one of the most talented current young singers, the mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa.
Unrecognized, this Missa Sacra is yet one of the most beautiful schumannien piece concerning the orchestral part.
Geoffroy Jourdain decided to combine it with a splendid a capella cycle also written by Schumann: a German influenced program, purely romantic.
