Alongside Alessandro Scarlatti, numerous composers contributed to the flourishing of Neapolitan opera in the 18th century. Many have fallen into oblivion and their works lie dormant in the archives of the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella. Under the direction of harpsichordist Ignacio Prego, countertenor Xavier Sabata, soprano Alicia Amo and the Ensemble Tiento Nuovo perform some of the most beautiful arias by Sarri, Vinci and Vignola that have never been recorded before. An impressive testimony to the art of affetti, which was cultivated by these Neapolitan masters and is rediscovered here with renewed enthusiasm.
