Max Reger (1873-1916) was a German composer, pianist and conductor whose music bridged the gap between late Romanticism and early modernism. Reger was strongly influenced by J. S. Bach, Beethoven and Brahms and was known for his contrapuntal mastery and harmonic richness. Although his reputation often rested on his organ and chamber music, his works for piano four hands offer a revealing insight into his compositional personality - both his intellectual rigor and his expressive warmth.
