Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1928, tenor & alto saxophonist, arranger and composer FRANK FOSTER is one of the last well-known representatives who were involved in the success of the legendary Count Basie Orchestra not only as soloists but also as arrangers. Quincy Jones, Neal Hefti, Thad Jones and FRANK FOSTER shaped the characteristic sound of the Basie Band in the 50s and 60s with their arrangements.After his military service, FRANK FOSTER joined the Basie Band as a tenor saxophonist in 1953, where he became known as an outstanding soloist and composed various hits, such as "Shiny Stockings", which conquered the jazz charts worldwide in 1956. he left the Basie Band again in 1964 to devote himself to other tasks. After Count Basie's death (1984), he succeeded Thad Jones as bandleader of the Basie Big Band from 1986 to 1995, with whom he once again enjoyed worldwide success.
