Karl Kohaut: Lautenkonzert F-Dur+Bernhard Joachim Hagen: Trio Es-Dur+Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht: Lautenkonzert C-Dur+Johann Friedrich Fasch: Lautenkonzert d-moll
After the lute had been a symbol of sophisticated entertainment at the courts of the nobility in the 17th century, a small group of virtuosos and composers refused to accept its predicted decline in the following century. These musicians moved the epicenter of their influence to the courts of Vienna, Bayreuth and Dresden, adapting the codes and forms of the galant style to the lute. Miguel Rincón and Il Pomo d'Oro present concertos by Kohaut, Fasch and Kleinknecht as well as a trio by Hagen. The virtuoso works reveal the rich sound and expression of an instrument at the interface between baroque and gallant style.
