Pancho Vladigerov is considered by many to be Bulgaria‘s mostnotable composer. Apart from the piano, which was Vladigerov’sprimary focus of expertise (see Capriccio C8060 – The PianoConcertos), the violin came a close second. Undoubtedly Vladigerov’smost popular and frequently performed composition is his BulgarianRhapsody Op. 16 ‘Vardar’ (1922), heard here in its version for violinand orchestra. It taps into the character of Bulgarian life and perfectlycaptures the essence of the country’s culture. These recordings, produced in the 1970s in Bulgaria, are partof Capriccio‘s 18-disc Vladigerov Edition that will preserve thecomposer‘s colourful music for future generations. ConductorAlexander Vladigerov is Pancho Vladigerov‘s son.
