Pancho Vladigerov is considered by many to be Bulgaria‘s most
notable composer. Apart from the piano, which was Vladigerov’s
primary focus of expertise (see Capriccio C8060 – The Piano
Concertos), the violin came a close second. Undoubtedly Vladigerov’s
most popular and frequently performed composition is his Bulgarian
Rhapsody Op. 16 ‘Vardar’ (1922), heard here in its version for violin
and orchestra. It taps into the character of Bulgarian life and perfectly
captures the essence of the country’s culture.
These recordings, produced in the 1970s in Bulgaria, are part
of Capriccio‘s 18-disc Vladigerov Edition that will preserve the
composer‘s colourful music for future generations. Conductor
Alexander Vladigerov is Pancho Vladigerov‘s son.
