This 19-time Grammy winner is one of the last great American crooners, a song stylist whose name is rightly mentioned in the same breath as Frank Sinatra. Anthony Dominick Benedetto was born in 1926 in Queens, New York. Already during his school days he sang in clubs and also later in the US Army he shone as an entertainer.
In 1949 Bob Hope discovered the young singer, who at that time still called himself Joe Bari, and advised him to change his name again. The Columbia record company gave him a contract and Tony Bennett now made a steep career, which is documented here with his first 19 original LPs.
Between 1951 and 1967 he was in the American pop charts with 43 titles. Bennett is still one of the most popular and successful American artists and has sold over 50 million records. In September 2014 his last album for the time being was released, which he recorded together with Lady Gaga.
