This complete recording of Francis Poulenc's a cappella choral works marks the 20th anniversary of Ensemble Aedes and completes a cycle begun in 2009. These works form a unique ensemble that reveals a fragile interiority imbued with deep humanity. For Poulenc, there was no separation between the secular and the sacred in his choral works: he seems to have regarded them as a unity arising from the same inspiration. From the Chanson à boire (1922) to the Laudes de saint Antoine de Padoue (1957), all his compositions bear witness to the same passion, clarity and depth of feeling.
