"In the late 1940s, Korner played guitar in Chris Barber's jazz band. He then joined Ken Colyer's Skiffle Group and played guitar and mandolin on his recordings. In 1957 he met harmonica virtuoso Cyril Davies - the two of them founded the Alexis Korner Skiffle Group. In this musical phase Korner turned more and more to the blues. From 1961 to 1967, Korner¿s work with his formation Blues Incorporated was trend-setting for groups such as the Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, Cream, Animals, Manfred Mann and Colosseum. With some of these groups, Alexis Korner could even be named as the founder. Alexis Korner helped the American blues veterans, until then almost unknown in Europe, to reach a wider public in Great Britain and on the European mainland. It can be said that without the British beat groups and Korner¿s work, people like Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, B. B. King, Muddy Waters or Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee would have remained largely marginalized. On this CD we have documented the early years (1954 - 1957) of Alexis Korner."
