Simon-Pierre Bestion takes us into the world of Charles V and a Spain influenced by Arab-Andalusian culture. From 1515, Spain also welcomed musicians and singers from Flanders: According to Bestion, this capilla flamenca had an explosive influence on Spanish Renaissance music. Now Simon-Pierre Bestion, an expert in early music, has put together an imaginary requiem for the death of Charles V, using compositions that were actually intended for this service, such as Pedro de Escobar's Missa pro defunctis and Cristobal de Morales' Missa Mille regretz, which is based on the emperor's favorite song. As usual, the founder and director of Tempête takes some liberties and breathes life into these works by arranging them with variations in timbre, tempo and expression: "I have chosen to make extensive use of percussion and certain very characteristic instruments such as shawms and trombones, which fit perfectly with the spirit of outdoor processions, such as those in the gardens of the Alhambra."
