So there are also geniuses in Spain. Mauri Sanchis, a musician who has mastered the art of making the complicated look simple, is one of them. The self-taught musician began his career in 1994 in the band Progressions. He has strong ties to the blues, is more at home in R&B than almost anyone else, flirts with soul and also treats jazz and funk with the utmost respect. After touring California with Gary Hamilton and Jay Wood & the Blues Commandoes and being a member of Graham Foster's band, he returned to Spain to record his debut album. The album Less Is More was released in 2003 and was well received by the media, Mauri had staked his claim. Thanks to his mastery of the Hammond organ and his extraordinary professionalism, this wizard of the keys was signed by Hammond as an endorser, the first and so far only Spanish musician and one of the few worldwide. A great honor that Mauri Sanchis is well aware of. His music can no longer be ignored, so a few of the big names in fusion - Pedro Ruy Blas, Javier Vargas, Dean Brown and Bill Evans - immediately agreed to work with him. So now, after years of planning, a lot of hard work, ups and downs, high hopes, illness, anger, but also a lot of love and enthusiasm, his new album is here. Mauri's soul is white, but his heart is as black as his gripping and inspiring melodies. Time will give Mauri the place he deserves.
In his second solo album, Good Vibes!!!, Mauri Sanchis is backed up by his live band as well as great stars like sax player Bill Evans, guitarists Dean Brown and Javier Vargas and organ player Joey DeFrancesco who plays a trumpet solo in the tune Beauty in the B, surrounded by the voices of organ personalities from 21 countries!!!! The album has been described by Mark Vail (author of the book The Hammond Organ: Beauty in the B) as "an awesome entrée of funky jazz and deep-fried soul replete with Mauri's searing Hammond B-3 monster chops. Delectably tasty tracks ready for your consumption. An outstanding job!"
