Maguy Marin's unusually original and magical version of Sergei Prokofiev's Cinderella was a resounding success during her world tour. "Marin's vision reaches back into the universal ideas and memories that everyone may know from their own childhood," Anna Kisselgoff reports in the New York Times. The characters in her childlike view of the play are like living dolls onto which real human feelings are projected -- in the way that children identify with their toys. The story takes place in a doll's house, the fairy is a robot, Cinderella goes to the ball in a toy car and the prince sets off on a rocking horse in search of the unknown beauty ...In this recording from 1989, the ballet ensemble of the Opéra National de Lyon, led by Joullié, Dominique Lainé, Jayne Playsted and Danièle Pater, dances Sergei Prokofiev's story ballet Cinderella (Cinderella) with choreography by Maguy Marin, set and costumes by Montserrat Casanova and lighting design by John Spradbery. The orchestra of the Opéra National was conducted by Yakov Kreisberg.
