Johann Sebastian Bach's 15 two-part inventions and the 15 three-part symphonies played an important role in his teaching. These pieces, which today are mainly associated with basic piano training, are by no means simple, but rather refined little masterpieces. They were composed not only to train piano playing technique, but - perhaps even more importantly - to teach piano players how to compose.
